Last night at an acquired structure, the RFD practiced using the new RIT Rescue Board recently purchased after a presentation and drill in the recent past. Members, using a rescue mannequin were trained in the proper procedure in securing a victim located in the basement, to the board and bringing it outside using an inside staircase. The removal was complicated by a sharp turn at the top of the basement stairs leading into the kitchen area. This allowed the rescuers to work as a team to navigate the top of the stairs and safely remove the victim. Meanwhile, on the second floor, a second evolution was being exercised with members practicing a rapid search technique to sharpen their skills in search and rescue. A 3-man team were the crew acting as a first due engine company assigned to search the entire second floor. This included 3 bedrooms, a full bathroom and several closets including knee wall storage areas. It was fortunate there was furniture in the bedrooms to add realism. The RFD will continue to practice these evolutions in acquired structures as they become available.
