FAST Training at an acquired structure

The last couple of Monday night drills consisted of FAST training at an acquired structure, focused on rescue and removal of a downed member. One scenario was using a roof ladder that gets placed in a basement window to provide an alternate way to remove a firefighter in distress. The member gets placed on the ladder and members in the basement as well as members outside would lift and slide the ladder out of the basement, thus removing the member.

The second scenario was the simulation of a floor collapse with members trapped in the basement. Using a charged hoseline, the hose would be passed down into the collapsed area to create a "U" shaped design to allow a firefighter to sit on the hose as members above would pull the hoseline up allowing the member to be placed on the floor above. These scenarios allowed members to practice communication and coordination to perform each evolution, working as a team to complete the task.

As the year comes to an end, the RFD is thankful for the countless hours of training provided by our training officers, current and past Chiefs and officers, and the Bergen County Public Safety Center for taking the time to pass on their knowledge and experience to the membership. Training is endless and the RFD takes pride in the continued effort.
