Early this morning aproximatly 2:50 AM a 911 call was recieved at Ramsey Police Headquarters reporting a garbage truck on fire at the New York Sports Club. Ramsey Police dispatched two patrol cars along with the Fire Department , Rescue Squad and Ambulance Corps. Upon arrival of the first police officer it was reported to be a "Working" fire. The cab portion of the truck was fully involved. Upon arrival at the scene Chief Jim Dougherty 430 established command. Chief Dougherty called for Mahwah Haz-Mat as is the standard procedure for a garbage truck fire. Assistant Chief Carl Held and Deputy Chief Randy Sterbinsky also arrived on scene and established Operations and Safety. Captain Lou Warnet in Mini 436 arrived and went to work. Engines 432 and 431 arrived on scene the crews established a water source and began extinguishment. Mahwah Haz -Mat arrived on scene to evaluate the situation and mitigate any hazardous situation. Other than regular fluids for the truck no hazards were found , although proactive precautions were taken. The Rescue Sqaud provided traffic support and the ambulance was on standby in the event of an injury. The Fire was deemed as NOT suspicious at this time.The fire was extinguished and the last units cleared the scene aproxamitly 5:30 Am. There weas no delay in operations for the sports club more importantly no injuries were reported to the driver of the truck and our firefighters . |
